California running back Tavior Mowry setting his own standard!

by Bill Harrison on 6.3.2010

When you grow up with a house full of extremely successful family members it’s only natural to think there could be some tough acts to follow. But, don’t ever (ever) tell Tavior Mowry that!

The personable young star from Westlake high school (Westlake Village, CA), has spent the past two seasons setting his own standard of excellence on the football field. Raising the “family bar” so to speak.

In the Mowry household, everyone knows what it’s like to dream big and accomplish your goals. Tavior’s older twin sisters, Tia and Tamera, best known for their wholesome, family sitcom ``Sister, Sister’’, support the football dreams of their younger brother Tavior. And, big brother Tahj, former child star of the WB Network sitcom, ``Smart Guy,’’ which aired from 1997 to 1999, is pursuing acting and music full time.

Mowry is coming off of a very impressive junior season where he rushed for over 1500 yards, hauled in 17 receptions for another 370 yards, and he scored 15 touchdowns along the way.

For his efforts the prized running back earned 1st Team All-League and 2nd Team All-County honors. Westlake ended the 2009 season ranked #4 in California, and #19 in the nation.

One of the nation’s top college scouts, Tom Franco, said that “Tavior should be one of the premiere running back prospects throughout California heading into the 2010 season. He is fast, reads the field well and has a terrific burst of speed that he can turn on at any time. Mowry also displays a good power style of running on the blasts and traps.”

On the recruiting front Mowry has received offers from Air Force and Arizona State to date. Others who are in hot pursuit include Boise State, California, Oregon and Vanderbilt. It's beginning to heat up for Mowry and, as more college coaches become aware of his skills, additional offers are sure to follow.

In the mean time it's business as usual for Mowry. A busy summer schedule hitting the camp circuit, pleanty of passing leagues and working hard to improve his already impressive skills.

As Mowry heads into his senior season full steam ahead he has one thing on his mind - helping his team get back to the CIF playoffs in hopes of besting the performance of a year ago.
